No entry signAre half your visitors being turned away at the entrance? Are 70% of your potential customers unable to find you?

The average business and organisational web site is losing money because it shuts out traffic*.

access all areasMany people responsible for commissioning web sites are not aware that official standards exist for web site accessibility and usability.

Cyberium develops web sites which conform to Web Accessibility Initiative standards. These optimise the chances of your web site being found and used by the largest number of people.

Two sites can look the same but be coded very differently. Find out how good your web site is, and the Return On Investment for fixing any problems.

An inclusive approach

There are an estimated 8 million disabled people in the UK alone. For many of them using the Web brings huge possibilities for extending the quality of their lives, and yet great frustrations because many designers do not understand how disabled people use computers and the Web.

Accessibility means:

  • sight-impaired people can still read the site
  • those who use screen readers can 'hear' your site
  • dyslexic people can read it as can those with colour blindness
  • people who are unable to use a mouse and/or keyboard can navigate the site
  • it doesn't lock out people who don't have or can't fully appreciate the necessary plug-in
  • it's easy to find
  • it's quick and easy to download
  • it works in all browsers and platforms
  • it is well designed and thought out.

A site that does all of these things will reach a lot more people and score higher with search engines.

Legislation

Web sites should largely comply with the Disability Discrimination Act.

We have worked with Channel 4 on developing and implementing their policy under the Broadcasters Disability Network manifesto. We have also helped government departments produce accessible and inclusive websites and taken part in E-Government Cabinet Office level workshops to develop standards. We have provided a resource page about designing for accessibility and usability.

Testimonial

I am so happy with my web site! It's so user friendly and just what I wanted - although I'm a terrible perfectionist. And all the designers I show it to say how good it looks.
